Intermediate Level Workshop

2009 Date:  Sept. 16 - 19, 2009       COST: $475

Intensive 4 day intermediate level iconography workshop in egg tempera, prior experience required.  Instruction covers board preparation, gold gilding, drapery development, advance drawing techniques and anatomy.  Students will write an icon of a saint.

Price includes prepared gessoed board, other necessry materials, instruction, lodging & meals for 4 nights & 4 days.  Students are requested to arrive after dinner on Tuesday evening, Sept 15th so to begin early on the 16th.  Course concludes by 4:00 pm on Saturday.

Beginner Level Workshop

Price includes materials, instruction, lodging & meals for 3 nights & 3 days.  Students are requested to arrive after dinner on Wednesday evening May 5th so to begin early on the Thursday.  Course concludes by 4:00 pm on Saturday.

Youth Workshop                 

Feb 27 - Mar 1,  2009                           COST:

*Concurrent with the Metropolis of Atlanta GOYA Lenten Retreat

Intensive weekend introductory course for beginners ages 13 to 19.  Students will learn basic drawing skills, color theory, painting techniques and an introduction to the history and theology of iconography.  Class size is limited to 20 students and a minimun of 10 is needed to hold this workshop.  This workshop is designed for youth with a dedicated interest in art and their Christian faith. The workshop and the Lenten retreat will be separate programs but the youth will be together for prayer services and meals and general fellowship.

Artist counselors will be needed for this event.  Please contact Fr. Anthony to be considered. 

Price includes lodging, meals, materials and instruction.  Specially priced as a Metropolis of Atlanta Youth Diakonia program.

For the past fifteen years Fr. Anthony has been giving SLIDE LECTURES ON BYZANTINE ICONOGRAPHY explaining the development, history, theology and use in the Orthodox Church.  The slide collection includes photographs of some of the most treasured churches in places such as Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt, Jerusalem, Yugoslavia and Russia  and are presented in an interesting and comparative manner.  You may choose the topic or topics that you would like emphasized.  Some of the areas of discussion are as follows:

• the theological dimension of iconography
• the liturgical aspect
• the history and development 
• the iconoclast controversy 
• planning an iconographic program for a church 
• the technical aspects of painting icons 
• or a broad introduction to Iconography that touches on all aspects (minimum 1 hour)
